Maha was taken to a holding cell after questioning with Arcadeus. The prison wasn't exactly one she couldn't get out of, but there were three guards on duty that had her under surveillance the entire time. She only had a small bench to sit on. It was a temporary cell, in the middle of a concrete room, with bars surrounding every corner. Two of the guards were in a room next door. The third was a man standing in front of her, fitted in a grey version of the military uniform.
Ever since they had locked her in, he was giving her mean looks, as if she had betrayed her people.
"Do you even know why I'm in here?" she asked. She couldn't stand false judgement. Maha was a truth seeker, hated to lie and was always loyal. "Do they even tell you?"
"That's above our pay grade," he replied. He sounded young but he could have been well over seventy. It was always hard to tell the age of a Demigod. Everyone bonded with their particle at a different age and it kept them young but how young, nobody knew.
"They don't pay you to think?" she continued to ask.
"There are Commanders and then there are soldiers. I am a soldier." he pointed out. "If they tell us to lock you up, we lock you up."
"Been in the military long?"
"Five years... You?" he hesitated a bit.
"Almost a week now I suppose but I gained rank fast because of my abilities and willpower."
"Yeah, willpower is needed."
"But aren't you the least bit curious as to why I'm locked up?" Maha shifted her sitting position. She rested her elbows on her legs, clasped her hands together and lay her head on top, supporting its full weight as he leaned forwards. "Doesn't General Arcadeus kill traitors?" The guard looked at her, his stare intensifying.
"You have information he needs?" he asked. Maha slowly nodded. "Makes sense, I suppose."
He didn't ask another question and neither did Maha. Her mind was going through several thoughts and scenarios on Arcadeus. Is he the man I saw? What has made him so strong? The guard studied her as her eyes left any focus on the real world and she wondered deep into her imagination. A scenario formed up before her. A world where the Demigods won the war. Arcadeus was at the helm of a world-wide extinction of humans. She could hear him spew out propaganda, shouting like a demented man, fists at the ready.
"General Arcadeus is a good man." said the soldier. He was trying to stare right into her eyes. "If you're with the resistance that believes that we are evil because of what we are, then I hope Arcadeus does to you what he does to the rest of them."
"I'm not with the resistance." Maha shook her head. "Arcadeus simply believes that I have answers that I don't have. There are some things beyond my understanding and consciousness that have happened."
"Wait a second," he raised a finger. "Are you Maha Azim?"
"I am..."
"Holy shit. They didn't tell us who we were guarding. Do you have any idea what kind of trouble you're in?" Maha gulped at the question. Her body was tense.
"What kind?" She asked.
"There are rumours of an overpowered being in our midst. No one really knows if this being is a Demigod or not, now that we have vampires running amok."
"That vampire report is real?"
"It is."
"But can vampires bond with God Particles?" Maha asked curiously, biting at her nails at the same time.
"No one knows. But if you can't provide answers to General Arcadeus, he's going to find you useless and end you."
"Thanks for letting me know." The door suddenly opened and the two other guards entered.
"It's time." said one of them.
"Time for what?" asked Maha.
"Judgement." said the guard in front of her.
Was this it? They brought forth depowering handcuffs. Maha hesitated this time to be cooperative. She still didn't know if she was being used as a scapegoat. She didn't recognise the man who knew her name but with all the different and unique powers the Demigods have, who was to say there weren't powers that could change appearance. The guards were coming closer. If she was found guilty no matter what she did or said, she'd be dead by the end of the day. Her breathing became shorter and faster. She started studying her surroundings, the men about to handcuff her, thinking of ways to get out of this situation. But what if they don't find me guilty? What if they let me go?
"NO!" Maha roared. "Not risking my life for you people again!" One of the guards launched himself on to her while she was still sitting on the bench. Maha reacted fast and dodged to the side but grabbed his arm in the process. The guard fell on his chest on top of the bench with his one arm raised and held by Maha. She immediately punched through his elbow, breaking it, before whipping him up to his feet and towards his comrades. A shockwave followed the toss sending all three men out of her cage and into the wall. "I'm sorry but I have to do this." Maha pressed her fingers together, ready to thrust her hand right below the ribcage of one of the guards to pull his heart out.
Maha thrust forward but her body was thrown back before even connecting. The guards stood up, one of them obviously had telekinetic powers and was forcing her down. She tried to identify who it was but the Demigod was able to do it lowkey without any dramatic staring or hand and arm movements.
"Fucking shit!" she yelled.
"You can't defeat three Demigods."
"Yes... Yes I fucking can!" Maha focused her powers on time, going a few seconds back into the past and stopped where she had just pushed the guards back. She sent a heavy shockwave, knocking their heads hard against the wall and knocking them out. "I'm sorry." Without hesitating this time, she thrust her hand into their chests one by one, pulling their hearts out, and then she waited. What she was planning on doing was inhumane and illegal. A few seconds passed before it happened. The God Particles began to rise from their bodies. The pure white hurt her eyes. They had a powerful glow but it pleased her soul. She felt closer to a heavenly-like state. God Particles did that. She extended her arms out, welcoming the God Particles. "I do this for you, Keyla."
There was shouting and heavy footsteps coming from the hallway. The God Particles began to bond with her. It tickled at first. A cold shiver. Her hair began to stand. She felt her bones tingle. Her mind suddenly felt clear and awake and then her muscles began to ache. And then it all stopped. The plain wall in front of her suddenly looked beautiful. She was looking at the world with a completely different perspective. The footsteps were getting closer.
"It's ok." she assured herself. "The more... the merrier."
